TSR ARC Project
For the 2020-2021 school year, Texas School Ready offered additional support to public school districts and charter schools in Texas through our TSR Advancing Remote Coaching (ARC) Project.
Through a competitive application process, school districts and charter schoolscould apply for individualized remote coaching support for their pre-kindergarten teachers. Remote coaching support was delivered from September 2020 to May 2021.
With funding from the Texas Education Agency, the Children’s Learning Institute (CLI) provided the necessary support and training for remote coaching at no cost. All school districts and charter schools that received remote coaching through this project adhered to certain requirements. All Texas public school districts and charter schools were welcome to apply.
This project provided individualized, data-driven coaching for a teacher; the coaching was closely aligned with professional development content and delivered by a specially trained TSR coach. The goal of this coaching support was to help teachers improve their practice using targeted tools and methods to meet each teacher’s specific needs in the classroom or with remote instruction. In our remote model, coaches communicate with teachers via Zoom, web postings, and phone, then provide guidance on the teacher’s recorded instruction through individualized strategies and resources that improve instruction and learning across a variety of contexts, both remote and in-class. Teachers can also review coach feedback through annotations directly on their videos. Coaches also share additional videos of effective teaching and set data-driven goals with the teacher to support instructional improvement.
Teachers enrolled in the TSR ARC remote coaching program received support through a menu of services tailored to the district, teachers, students, and families. Coaches will provide:
Video-based coaching increases TSR’s capacity to serve classrooms in communities with limited access to quality-improvement opportunities by eliminating the costs of travel to remote schools.
Across multiple studies, TSR has found that one-to-one coaching combined with facilitated professional development and child progress monitoring results in higher-quality teaching and better child outcomes. In the TSR ARC coaching program, personalized coaching is delivered remotely on a biweekly basis.
Participating teachers received a certificate for the coaching hours, in compliance with Rider 78, upon completion of their coaching support.
