For the 2020-2021 school year, Texas School Ready is offering additional support for public school districts and charter schools in Texas through our TSR Advancing Remote Coaching (ARC) Project.
Through a competitive application process, school districts and charter schools can apply for individualized remote coaching support for their pre-kindergarten teachers. Remote coaching support will be delivered from September 2020 to May 2021.
Through funding from the Texas Education Agency, the Children’s Learning Institute (CLI) provides the necessary support and training for the remote coaching support at no cost, but CLI does not reimburse public school districts or charter schools for the time or expense incurred to receive these services. All school districts and charter schools who receive remote coaching through this project must adhere to certain requirements. All Texas public school districts and charter schools are welcome to apply.
This project provides individualized, data-driven, coaching for a teacher; the coaching is tightly connected with professional development content and is delivered by a specially-trained TSR coach. The goal of this coaching support is to help teachers improve their practice using targeted tools and methods to meet each teacher’s specific needs in the classroom or with remote instruction. In our remote model, coaches communicate with teachers via Zoom, web postings, and by phone, then provide guidance on the teacher’s own recorded instruction through individualized strategies and resources that improve instruction and learning across a variety of contexts in remote and in-classroom instruction. Teachers can review coach feedback through annotations made directly on their videos, as well. Coaches also share other videos of effective teaching and set data-driven goals with the teacher for instructional improvement.
Teachers enrolled in the TSR ARC remote coaching program will receive support with a menu of services to meet the needs of the district, teachers, students, and families. Coaches will provide:
Video-based coaching increases TSR’s capacity to serve classrooms in communities with limited access to quality improvement opportunities by eliminating the costs associated with travel to remote schools.
Through multiple studies, TSR has found that one-to-one coaching combined with facilitated professional development and child progress monitoring results in higher quality teaching and better child outcomes. In the TSR ARC coaching program, personalized coaching is delivered on a biweekly basis remotely.
Participating teachers will receive a certificate for coaching hours, in compliance with Rider 78, at the conclusion of their coaching support.
School districts and charter schools requesting remote coaching through this project must specify in their application the number of teachers they would like to receive this coaching support.
Applications must be submitted through the online survey. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis! The short application takes about 10-15 minutes to complete.
