Texas School Ready is a comprehensive preschool teacher training program that combines high quality classroom materials and curricula with ongoing professional development and progress monitoring tools. Teachers from child care centers, Head Start programs, and public school pre-kindergarten participate in TSR. Throughout the school year, teachers enrolled in TSR are provided tools to help them learn more about the specific instructional needs of the children in their classrooms and how to support children using engaging lessons and activities. The new skills and techniques that teachers learn through TSR positively affect the classroom experience for children.
Texas School Ready is implemented across the state through three delivery models that vary by support level intensity: TSR Online, TSR Online+, and TSR Comprehensive. Agencies can participate in multiple levels of service at the same time, depending on the individual needs of the teachers and childcare providers they serve.
Learn more about these delivery models below.
Starting in the 2015-2016 school year, all public school districts, public charter schools, Texas Rising Star sites, Head Start grantees, and former Texas School Ready participants in Texas will be able to access Texas School Ready tools and resources at no cost. Programs that register for TSR Online will have access to the free tools and resources that include the professional development, child progress monitoring system, classroom observation tools, and activity collection. Visit CLI Engage to sign-up for free access to TSR's online tools.
Public school districts and charter schools that would like additional support for their prekindergarten teachers can apply for those additional support services through a competitive application process. Through funding from the Texas Education Agency, CLI will provide the necessary training and materials included as part of these additional support services at no cost, but CLI does not reimburse public school districts or charter schools for the time or expense incurred to receive these services.

Multiple research studies have confirmed that Texas School Ready positively impacts teacher instructional practices in the classroom, regardless of setting (public school pre-k, Head Start, and private child care classrooms). Teachers participating in TSR Comprehensive are more responsive to the individual needs of the children in their classrooms. They show increases in their use of language-building strategies, including the quality of book reading, general conversations with children, and the use of oral language instruction to build these skills. Even greater gains have been found in emergent literacy instructional practices. Teachers also show better responsive teaching practices, organization of their centers, and the use of lesson plans. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) conducted by researchers at the Children's Learning Institute on the effectiveness of TSR Comprehensive are published in peer-reviewed journals after undergoing rigorous evaluation by independent experts in the field.
The tools and resources developed for use in TSR Comprehensive are now available to thousands of teachers across the state through TSR Online. These tools and resources include our CIRCLE Progress Monitoring System, eCIRCLE Professional Development courses, CIRCLE Activity Collection of classroom activities (previously available only in print as the CIRCLE Preschool Teacher's Manual), and classroom observation tools.
Preschool teachers enrolled in TSR participate in a comprehensive teacher training program designed to help children be more prepared for kindergarten and beyond.
